The Capacity Building Programs based on the results of our thorough research. This division also examines the results of the research to design proper program intervention in CVE. Main beneficiaries of the capacity building programs are Government officers from Correctional Directorate of Law and Human Rights Ministry to train the Parole and Prison Officers in handling terrorist inmates, and Social Workers in Social Ministry to train the Social Workers in handling deportees/returnees.
Journalistic Training for Islamic Boarding Schools Students
The project is aiming to develop critical thinking among the youth at the Pesantren, especially female students. The training comprise of three topics: Human Rights, Peace Journalism and Social Media (Blogging). Each topic will be given four times which stress more on practice in the news writing through little research and observation of local condition in Solo.
Capacity Building for Correctional (Parole and Prison) Officers
Prison and Parole officers play a very important role in term of countering violence extremism, because they are engaged with the terrorist and former terrorist inmates in a daily basis. So, to increase the knowledge, capability and capacity of Parole and Prison Officers in handling terrorist and former terrorist inmates, IIPB has created this program. This program also as part of ‘social enterprise’ rehabilitation program development, a concept which the terrorist inmates are being prepared to have business enterprise once they finished their time in prison.
Training for Social Ministry Officers in Handling Returnees/Deportees
The training aims to equip the government officers especially Social Ministry officers (Social Workers) with the capacity and capability in handling returnees and deportees from Syria. This training is based on the fact that many social workers are have very limited knowledge about people with radical ideas. The are of the training are Jakarta and Solo and we expected to expand the area in the future.
Movie Screening Prison and Paradise (2014)
‘Prison and Paradise’ was produced in 2010. ‘Prison and Paradise’ shows how the bombing act will result another orphanage children in the both side, the family of victims and perpetrators of bombing acts. The movie screening and discussion has created such room for dialogue and discourse that will generate a critical thinking within society and understanding on the real impact of violent acts. During the screening program, the movie has been screened in 34 provinces in Indonesia.
Movie Screening Jihad Selfie (2016)
Jihad Selfie’ was produced in 2014. It was screened for the first time at International Workshop of Counter Violence Extremism in Geneva back in 2015. This movie created based on phenomenon when the radical groups especially Islamic State (IS) use social media to recruiting new member.
We use the screening and discussion as a media to have an open and healthy discussion about the phenomenon of radical groups in Indonesia. Since its inaugural screening, Jihad Selfie has been watched by roughly 10,000 viewers, consists of wide range of ages from teenagers to parents, both in Indonesia and abroad.
